Fedora was popular in the West in the first half of the 20th century. At that time, she was almost an indispensable attribute of costume in urban industrialized areas. This hat is often associated with gangsters, private detectives and other "cool guys", largely due to the stamp of Hollywood films of the 1930s and '40s. Around the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, Fedor lost popularity. In the early 1980s, Fedor smoothly entered into the female fashion and does not give up their positions so far. Nowadays Fedor is experiencing another wave of popularity.

In the 20th century, a gentleman who wore a Fedor hat had to follow certain rules of etiquette. So, in order to express respect for the lady who appeared in sight, it was necessary to lift the hat over her head with three fingers, each of which was to lie in one of the “hollows” on the crown.
The opera of the same name by the Italian composer Umberto Giordano. In the play, staged in 1889, the main character performed by Sarah Bernard wore a hat of exactly that style, which soon became fashionable among women; then fedora became a popular element of the men's suit.
